Jack Taylor School Autism Resource Base clip_image007 is proud to announce the nationally recognised award of Accredited Status in Autism from the National Autistic Society.

The accredited status means that the JTS Autism Resource Base has been identified as providing a standard of excellence in both policy and practice and has developed a system of self assessment and development to enable continuous improvement in the service they provide.

We are extremely proud of the hard work that school staff and, in particular the Resource Base staff have achieved to ensure all pupils with autism receive the highest level of support and provision.

We are thrilled that we are now one of the small numbers of schools across the country to receive recognition for excellent practice.

We are excited about working with parents, carers and professionals to build on our achievements and develop further success in the future so that we can be recognised nationally for our provision for pupils with Autism.

EXTENDED SCHOOLS.

Thank you to all parents and carers who gave their time to answer our survey questions regarding extended school provision. We will be analysing the results and using them to work with the Local Authority to look at ways we can improve the Extended Schools provision for our pupils.

SEAL : THE THEME FOR THIS WEEK IS: “Being Happy”

Why not share a preferred song or game with your child that makes them happy? You could reinforce to them that laughing and smiling is often an expression of being happy.

Open Afternoons at School for Parents, Carers, and Families.

We are hoping to organise some open afternoons for parents and carers to drop in to classes and watch or take part in activities. We want parents and cares to find out more about what your child is doing at school and give you some ideas to support our work at home. We realise that it is not always easy to get into school but we will do all we can to support you. This will be the week of Monday 12th October. We will send a timetable to all parents and carers shortly.

Social Emotional Aspects Of Learning (SEAL)

We have always been proud of the school’s excellent care and guidance that supports our pupil’s social and emotional development. As we continue to further improve our provision we will be raising the profile of a positive ethos towards Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning by launching SEAL week.

We will be introducing different themes each week to promote learning and these will be incorporated into classroom teaching.

Activities this week will include;

MONDAY: “It’s good to be me” What am I good at? – Raising self awareness and self esteem.

TUESDAY: An afternoon of games based on “Socialising with my peers”

WEDNESDAY: “Look good, feel good” A day of pampering and personal care routines.

THURSDAY: “My Talents” An opportunity for pupils to share their talents and perform to others.

FRIDAY: A review of the whole week. Pupils and classes will share their experiences and work at the achievement assembly.

We will print the themes for SEAL each week in the newsletter so that you can support your child at home with their learning.

PHSCE - Parent and Carer contributions                                £££££££

Most of you will be aware that much of our curriculum at school is focused on building up your child’s independence and social skills. We endeavour to give every child opportunities to develop and practice these skills daily, appropriate to their needs.

Where possible, every child is encouraged to have a snack and drink each day during their morning break time, such as toast and juice.

This is regarded as teaching time so may involve going shopping for items, preparing them in class, laying the table and learning about how to enjoy a social experience with their peers.

We are asking that all parents and carers send in contributions each half term towards the purchasing of items. Your child’s class teacher will let you know more details. This will ensure that classes have enough money for your child to be able to have a healthy selection of snacks each day.
