We are always trying to look at easier ways of communicating with parents/carers about how we work with their sons/daughters and the progress they make in school.
At the moment all pupils have home school diaries and we have regular progress meetings throughout the year in school.
We now have the opportunity to extend our technology to support this very important area. We are trying out, with a small number of pupils, using recordable books and video cameras to further develop our relationship with families.
This will involve a very simple small video camera which will fit into a computer or television to play back. School can record a pupil working and parents/carers can do the same at home. We also have books which can have pictures put in and a recordable button for comment.
If the trial is successful we believe this form of technology could be used by most parents/carers and teachers to start a computerised record of pupils progress which would be personal to each family. We would also run training in school.
I will keep you informed.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
We are currently working in partnership with the disability youth service to bring the ‘Choices’ club to JTS. After the Easter break, we hope to run the club from the school and to increase the numbers of places available. We will be contacting parents and carers whose child is 11 years or older shortly to offer places. Letters of consent will be sent to parents and carers interested in taking up the places.
